2006 Jeep Cherokee light what does it mean?

I just bought a 2006 Jeep Cherokee and an orange light shows up when I start and drive it. It looks kind of like an engine but I have no idea what it is. Does anyone know if this is normal?
I would think it would say check engine if it was that. I just bought the car today and its been there since. They told me about the airbag light and said they’d fix it.
This light is just like a box with some strange shapes coming off the sides.

It’s your check engine light, it means that there is a problem with the engine, or it just needs to be reset, get one of your friends or family member to pop the hood and disconnect the negative terminal off the battery, it only needs to be disconnected for couple of seconds place it back on and then start the engine if it goes off and stays off then it only needed to be reset, if it comes back on, take the jeep back to where you bought in and let them know that the check engine light has come on.

I’d be checking with the dealership that sold you the vehicle bec it sounds like the service engine now light is on, plus you can get the system scanned at some shops or parts stores for free and see if any codes appear. But be sure to check it out one way or another especially with the seller of the vehicle bec that light staying on constantly as you drive states some kind of servicing is required more then likely.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way it be a great idea to read your owners manual and perhaps even invest into a service manual for that vehicle.

The lamp is a check engine lamp that comes on when a emission problem occurs, there are several possibilities but the most common is a loose gas cap, remove the cap and make sure the o-ring is there and I would put a small amount of lube around the seal and tighten securley. The car has to go through a few complete drive cycles with no failures before the lamp goes out unless you reset it manually. You can pull codes by turning ignition on an off three times and while in the on position count the flashes of the lamp. The code given will be the cause of the lamp on.

It’s not normal it’s your check engine light. There is nothing that says check engine on the dash. Here’s a link to the 2006 Liberty/Cherokee owners manual. See page 161 onwards which explain the dash lights…
